SBIR Impact NYC offers introductory and intensive workshops to prospective applicants and the public. In addition, for a select group of 20 companies, the Program also offers specialized assistance through a combination of topical webinars and up to 20 hours each in one-on-one expert proposal-development assistance.

ABC’s of SBIR/STTR Funding

The Federal SBIR/STTR programs award over $2.5 billion in high risk R&D funding annually to qualified small businesses. The process is complex with a steep learning curve, but the impact of receiving $millions in non-dilutive funding is worth the effort. This two-hr. session, conducted by nationally recognized SBIR/STTR expert, Lisa Kurek, will provide an overview of SBIR/STTR funding, discuss eligibility requirements, and help participants determine whether or not they should take the next steps in pursuing this compelling source of funding.

Intensive SBIR/STTR Workshop: NIH Focus (open to the public)

Each year the federal SBIR/STTR programs provide $2.6 billion in non-dilutive grant and contract funding to qualified small businesses to advance and commercialize game-changing technologies. Winning awards in these highly competitive federal programs requires strategic proposals and a thorough understanding of funding agency goals. During this 1.5-day public workshop, nationally recognized SBIR expert and consummate trainer, Lisa Kurek, program director for SBIR Impact NYC will focused on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) program. Lisa will cover program essentials including:

  • Information about eligibility for the SBIR Impact NYC program and how to apply
  • Current information on the SBIR/STTR programs
  • How to approach each section of your proposal
  • Planning your commercialization strategy
  • Writing to meet the reviewers’ expectations
  • Common problems and pitfalls and how to avoid them

Feedback from 15 years of attendees has overwhelming endorsed this session as a critical component in successful proposal development.

Planning to apply for the SBIR Impact NYC Program? If so, please note that this training is MANDATORY for as many key members of your team as possible and attendance is highly encouraged for your PI.  Workshop fees will be deducted from the $500 program fee for selected companies. The application deadline for Cycle 3 is midnight January 15, 2018. Applications from companies that have not attended training will not be considered.
